Stocks Going Ex Dividend the First Week of June

Here is our latest update on the stock trading technique called 'Buying Dividends,' also commonly referred to as 'Dividend Capture.' This is the process of buying stocks before the ex dividend date and selling the stock shortly after the ex date at about the same price, yet still being entitled to the dividend. This technique generally works only in bull markets, and can work in flat or choppy markets, but you need to avoid the technique during bear markets.

In order to be entitled to the dividend, you have to buy the stock before the ex-dividend date, and you can't sell the stock until after the ex date. The actual dividend may not be paid for another few weeks. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has compiled a downloadable and sortable list of the stocks going ex dividend in the near future. The list contains many dividend paying companies, lots with market caps over $500 million, and yields over 2%. Here are a few examples showing the stock symbol, the ex-dividend date, and the yield.

Arrow Financial AROW 6/1/2015 3.9%
Avery Dennison AVY 6/1/2015 2.4%

Poo Powered Vehicles and Other Alternative Energy Businesses

Forget electric cars. Here is a novel idea for powering vehicles, using cow manure for fuel. There is a bus in Great Britain called the "Bus Hound," which gets its biomethane fuel from cow poo. The bus can go an amazing 76 miles an hour, and it can be seen racing on a track in the video below.

If you think that's incredible, the British also have a bus running at the Bristol Airport that runs on human poop. On one tank, the bus can go over 180 miles.

Of course, there are more 'boring' types of alternative energy, such as solar. For example, the Tempe, Arizona based First Solar (FSLR) is the first solar panel company to reduce its manufacturing cost to $1 per watt. Instead of using conventional crystalline silicon technology, it utilizes s cadmium telluride  semiconductors.

First Solar trades at 25 times trailing earnings and 16 times forward earnings. The company has $247 million in debt but $1.48 billion in cash, amounting to $14.73 in cash per share. Revenues for the latest quarter dropped by over 50%. Is it time for a turnaround for this company?

Another 'boring' alternative energy is the fuel cell. Plug Power (PLUG) is one of the leaders in the fuel cell industry. The company carries $3 million in debt, but $131.5 million in cash. Although earnings were negative for the latest reported quarter,  revenues rose by 69% for the quarter year-over-year.

The alternative energy industry has suffered in recent years for a variety of reasons, however, a turnaround may be in the cards. Maybe one of these days, we will actually have a stock that produces poo powered vehicles. Only $437 to Fly from New York to London

Often, various airlines provide special rates on certain flights to popular cities. If you find them, don't waste any time buying your seats, as the offering time can be as little as 24 hours or less. There will probably be restrictions on when you can depart.

There is a website called SkipLagged, that lists numerous flights every day at very discounted prices. For example, it has a special flight that it found for flying from New York City JFK airport to London for only $437.

Just remember, when you see these deals, grab them when you can.

Plan Your Prosperity - The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need

The book Plan Your Prosperity: The Only Retirement Guide You'll Ever Need, Starting Now--Whether You're 22, 52 or 82 is written by Ken Fisher, money manager, billionaire, author, and long time Forbes columnist. (I think he is actually the longest Forbes columnist still living.)  If you are not retired, you need to start preparing now, and the book is a great starting point.

Of course, if you re already retired, you still need to do the right post-retirement planning, and the book can help with that also.

The book covers everything from why volatility should be expected, how stocks outperform bonds over the long term, watching out for scam artists, setting goals, using benchmarks, looking at timelines and much, much more.

I found chapter six the most interesting; it is called Getting that Cash Flow. Fisher first points out the risks of having a portfolio of stocks that all pay high dividends. He describes the concept of what he calls "Homegrown Dividends," which refers to selling investments to generate cash. The rest of the chapter takes you through a bootstrap Monte Carlo simulation, showing the various scenarios of the alternative cash flow levels for the life of your assets.

Appendix B and Appendix D have fill-in-the-blank worksheets that you can use to determine your cash flow, expenses, and balance sheet.

I recommend  Plan Your Prosperity for younger investors and investors who have never done any retirement planning. It will take you through the steps to a prosperous retirement.

Stocks Selling Below Cash Per Share

One fundamental way of searching for favorable stocks is to look for debt free stocks that are selling below book value, or even better yet, selling below cash per share. The cash per share is the total amount of cash the company has in the banks divided by the number of shares.

So if the company were to go out of business immediately, the shareholders would at least get the amount of cash per share plus whatever they could get from the sale of all their other assets.

Liquid Holdings Group (LIQD) is selling for 20 cents per share but has 50 cents in share in cash. In addition, it has no debt. Revenues for the latest quarter doubled, however, earnings were negative. The company is a provider of cloud-based trading and portfolio management solutions.

Lpath (LPTN) is a biotechnology company that is also selling way below cash per share. The share price is less than half of what the cash per share is. It is also debt free. Earnings and revenues were down for the latest quarter.

Delicate Systems (DCTH) sells for almost half of the cash per share. Quarterly revenues were up 43% for this pharmaceutical and medical device company.

When a company stock is trading below cash, it is almost impossible for the company to go out of business, unless it has an extremely high burn rate. Be careful; some of these companies sell for an extreme discount for a reason. If you like stock lists like this, go to WallStreetNewsNetwork.com to see many of the free stock lists.

The Best Way to Take Money Abroad for the Holidays

The Best Way to Take Money Abroad for the Holidays
Koko Sarkari, COO of ICE answers questions about holiday money

What is the best way to take money abroad for holidays? Is cash always best?
We suggest that travellers take enough local currency to pay for drinks, ice lollies, tips, taxis and so on, then consider putting the rest of their holiday spending money on a prepaid currency card such as the ICE Travellers Cashcard or use a credit card but be aware of exchange rates applied and charges for overseas use.  By taking a mixture of payment methods you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket and will have greater security than carrying cash alone.

Getting a good deal on currency should be a top priority for travellers wherever they go and by combining a number of options from pre-ordered travel money cash, loading currency onto prepaid cards, or using a credit card that’s free of overseas charges, travellers can take advantage of convenient payment options and competitive rates of exchange.

Is there a safer way than cash?
A PIN-protected prepaid currency card can offer greater security than carrying cash, allowing cardholders to travel light along with some coins and notes just for tips and small transactions. Not only will it help safeguard against fraud, but also assists holidaymakers with budgeting as you can only spend what’s on the card. An additional benefit of a prepaid currency card is that the rate of exchange will stay fixed at the time you loaded money to the card. Unsurprisingly we saw loads to the ICE Travellers Cashcard in Euros jump 23% at the start of the year as the Euro weakened against the Pound. Some providers such as ICE offer a free backup card in case the first card is lost or stolen. Also look out for cashback offers.

Where is the best place to get the best deal for my money?
A bit of planning both in terms of ordering travel money and methods of payment overseas can help make budgets go that bit further. Online rates tend to be more competitive than the high street but shop around and compare. Remember to factor in postage costs if you are having money delivered to home.
Some travel money providers offer special Click & Collect deals from their branches, so it is worth checking these out too.

If it’s advertised that there’s “no commission”, do customers pay for it on a poor exchange rate, especially when changing money back on return from holidays?
The exchange rate market is highly competitive and travellers now have a whole host of ways to access travel money at great rates. Generally commission charges don’t apply to travel money orders online but may apply in some locations such as airports due to higher operating costs. The best idea is for travellers to shop around and plan ahead.

Changing money back at the end of the holiday can be a source of frustration for holidaymakers. ICE has recognised this and offers a free 7 day same rate buy-back guarantee on the ICE Travellers Cashcard– funds can be converted back to sterling at the same exchange rate as the last load (as stipulated by the Terms and Conditions). If customers have purchased travel money from iceplc.com online or over the phone ICE will buy back leftover notes up to £300.

How can I get the most out of a pre-paid card?
When you apply for a prepaid currency card, be careful to check the Terms and Conditions. Many prepaid cards have charges that apply for their use and savings made on the rate of exchange could be lost through unexpected fees. However the ICE Travellers Cashcard for example is the only currency card on the market offering a 1.5% cashback on qualifying purchases.

It might be an idea to keep an eye on exchange rate movements and load the card to take advantage of favourable rates. It’s also worth thinking about loading money to the card on a regular basis rather than wait and load all in one go if you are worried about how exchange rates will move.

Generally, wherever the MasterCard® logo appears, a prepaid currency card such as the ICE Travellers Cashcard1 will be accepted. It is useful for everyday spending in shops, restaurants and bars and for withdrawing cash at ATMs. It’s just like using a credit card but you can only spend up to the amount that’s on the card.

Are there restrictions on where a prepaid currency card can be used?
In most instances you can use a prepaid card where you might have used a debit or credit card – but there are a couple of exceptions that travellers should be aware of.

Hotels and car hire companies usually create a pre-authorisation which might ‘ring-fence’ a large amount of cash on the card for security against damage to the room or car etc. This would prevent the card holder from accessing those funds for the duration of the stay – and beyond – as pre-authorisation is removed when the bill is settled, but can take 72 hours. It may therefore be preferable to use a credit or debit card for the pre-authorisation and pay the final bill with the prepaid currency card.

Some Motorway toll booths will not take prepaid cards as payment – try first but have cash as back up. Also some Train Ticket Machines won’t accept prepaid cards, so have cash at the ready if necessary. If you fancy doing some gambling, don’t rely 100% on a prepaid card as some are not accepted as payment within gambling institutions.

What are the pitfalls of just using your debit/credit card in a cash machine?
Be aware of any charges for using ATMs imposed by the card provider or the ATM operator.  Also consider the exchange rate that applies. If you pay by debit or credit card, ensure the transaction is conducted in the local currency rather than sterling otherwise you could be paying more for goods/services.

And finally, are there new ways to safely and inexpensively take money abroad that our readers should know about?
Those heading to the Eurozone this year, will find their money going further than at any time in almost 7 years so it makes sense to take advantage of the rates on offer. No one can predict how rates will move, but a good way to hedge your bets is to load money to a prepaid card in the lead-up to a holiday. That means if the Euro starts to strengthen closer to the departure date, the rate on the card will average out at a better rate than if you had put all your eggs in one basket and bought currency just before your holiday.

5 High Dividend Stocks Yielding Over 20%

Sometimes income investors like to do a little speculation. But instead of speculating by buying penny stocks or stock options, they purchase some extremely high yield stocks. By extremely high yield, these are stocks yielding over 10%, and some even pay more than 20%.

Stocks with yields this high are obviously risky, which is why they are selling at a price to generate such a high rate. Of course, there is the list that the dividend can be cut or eliminated entirely. So for investors willing to take the risk, here are five high dividend stocks yielding over 20%.

SandRidge Permian Trust (PER) receives oil and gas reserves from its reserves in the Texas Permian Basin. The stock pays an outrageously high yield of 36.9%, paying 64 cents on a quarterly basis. The company has been paying dividends since 2011. The trust has no debt and almost $5 million in cash.

Intersections (INTX) has been paying 20 cents each quarter steadily for the last eleven quarters, with one exception, when it paid a year-end dividend a couple years ago of 70 cents.   The company has four businesses: personal information services, insurance, pet health monitoring, and bail bonds industry solutions. The yield is a very high 22.9%.

Do you prefer to receive your dividends monthly? Then you may want to consider Cornerstone Progressive Return (CFP), a closed end equity fund which invests in income stocks, ETFs, and other closed end funds. The investment yields 20.9%.

Cornerstone Strategic Value (CLM) is another closed end fund of the same family. It pays 20.0%, and payouts are also made on a monthly basis.

CTC Media (CTCM) is a Russian company that owns television networks. The dividend has increased three times since March of 2012. The stock sports a yield of 20.8%.

If you decide to put any of these in your portfolio, make sure you understand the risks. But if the investments work out they may be the highest yielding ones you've ever owned.

How to Get the Stock Market Trivia Book for Free

"It is refreshingly different and very fun. It is very much out of the ordinary and unusual." ~ Ken Fisher, CEO of Fisher Investments, Forbes columnist, billionaire, and author
Who said Wall Street is boring? Do you know what stock traded for over a million dollars a share, the stock that had the symbol OO, or the stock that paid $8.5 million for a domain name? The book, Stock Market Trivia has this information and much, much more unusual and fascinating financial trivia.

Written by financial historian Fred Fuld III, Stock Market Trivia is a compilation of numerous interesting facts about Wall Street and the stock market. The book covers everything from the billionaire investor who was in a soap opera to Baby Bonds to Wall Street jokes to the stock that owned a rock that had George Washington's graffiti on it. It is an easy read that would make a great gift for the person who invests in the stock market. The paperback version of the book, available at Amazon.com, normally retails for $19.95.

However, it is currently being offered by Amazon for free if you have KindleUnlimited. I believe this is a limited time offer, so if you haven't read the book already, click on the following link, then click on Kindle $0.00 KindleUnlimited.

Stocks Going Ex Dividend the Third Week of May
